Man charged in Cahokia teen's killing; victim was sitting on porch when he was shot

A 25-year-old Cahokia man was charged with first-degree murder Thursday in connection with the fatal shooting of a teenager on Saturday.

The investigation into the shooting death of 18-year-old Jarius M. Nicholson was presented Thursday to the St. Clair County State's Attorney. After prosecutors reviewed the case, a warrant was issued for Emanuel L. Henderson, 25, of 34 St. Ambrose, Cahokia.

Henderson is currently in custody at the Cahokia Police Department with a $1 million bail.

Police continue to look for another person of interest in this case. Police are searching for Allen Y. Holloway III, 19, whose last known address was in East St. Louis. Holloway is a black male, 5-feet, 6-inches tall and weighs 125 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with knowledge of Holloway's whereabouts is asked to contact the Cahokia Police Department at 337-9505.

An assailant in a BMW pulled up in front of a home at 19 St. Ambrose Drive and opened fire on four young men sitting on a porch, killing Nicholson, according to a neighbor who said he saw the shooting.

Clifford Woldanski, of 20 St. Ambrose, has said he was in his garage and heard three shots. "I came running out and he shot five more shots and they all scattered," Woldanski said. He said the driver then jumped into the BMW and drove away.

After being shot, Nicholson was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Major Case Squad concluded its investigation on Thursday night and turned the case over to the Cahokia Police Department.

The Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis developed new leads Wednesday and they now are seeking a second person of interest in the weekend shooting death of a Cahokia man.

Deputy Commander Jeff Connor said the public's help is needed in finding Allen Y. Holloway III, whose last known address was in the East St. Louis area.

Police describe Holloway as a black man who is 5-feet-6, 125 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

Holloway may have information about the murder of Jarius M. Nicholson, 18, who was shot about 7:30 p.m. Saturday in front of 19 St. Ambrose Drive in Cahokia.

Due to the new leads investigators have, the Major Case Squad was granted an extension Wednesday to continue the investigation, Connor said. The squad generally investigates cases for five days before disbanding and turning the investigation over to local law enforcement.

Connor said Tuesday police do not believe Nicholson was the intended victim.

Also on Tuesday, investigators located and questioned Emanuel L. Henderson, 25, the first person of interest they sought. Henderson remained in custody Wednesday.

Deputy Commander Jeff Connor said that investigators were questioning Emanuel L. Henderson, 25, about the incident.

Investigators with the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis said Monday evening they were looking for a "person of interest" in connection with the shooting death of a Cahokia man Saturday.

Deputy Commander Jeff Connor described Emanuel L. Henderson, 25, as a "person of interest" and said detectives want to "speak with him about the incident."

Connor said Henderson is a black male, about 6 feet tall and 155 pounds, who goes by the nickname "Manny." Henderson has ties to both the metro-east and St. Louis, Connor said.

Police asked that anyone with information on Henderson's whereabouts or the shooting call the Cahokia Police Department at 337-9505.

Investigators earlier Monday announced they found the vehicle they were searching for in connection with the shooting, a red or maroon BMW believed to be a mid-1990s model.

"That vehicle has been located and is currently being processed," said Connor. "No further information will be given on how this vehicle was located."

Cahokia Police and investigators with the Major Case Squad are looking for a red or maroon BMW believed to be a mid-1990s model.

 Police have released the identity of an 18-year-old who was shot to death Saturday evening in Cahokia.

 The deceased is Jarius M. Nicholson, who was shot about 7:30 p.m. Saturday in front of 19 St. Ambrose Drive in Cahokia.

The Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis has been activated to investigate the shooting.

"There are about 14 investigators working on this case and will be working out of the Cahokia Police Department," said Jeff Connor, deputy commander of the squad. "We are asking the public's help in locating a red or maroon BMW, possible mid-1990s model that the suspects were driving at the time of the shooting."

Connor asked that anyone with information about the shooting or the vehicle contact investigators at 337-9505.

After being shot, Nicholson was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Clifford Woldanski, of 20 St. Ambrose, said he was in his garage when he heard three shots.

"I came running out and he fired five more shots and they all scattered," Woldanski said about the driver of a early 1990s model red BMW, who, he said, jumped into the car and took off.

Woldanski said one youth was struck in the leg as he fled and was found lying dead in a space next to 19 St. Ambrose. He said police told him the bullet that hit the victim traveled up his leg and lodged in his chest.
