MAPLEWOOD — The Greater St. Louis Major Case Squad on Sunday canvassed neighborhoods surrounding where Ahmed Eltawmi was fatally shot Friday night with a composite created of a suspect seen running from the scene, said Des Peres police Capt. Charles Milano, deputy commander of the squad.
Eltawmi, 50, owner of the popular Gyro House restaurant in the Delmar Loop, was shot about 9 p.m. in the parking lot of his Richwood Terrace apartment building in the 2400 block of Laclede Station Road in Maplewood.
The suspect is described as a black male, late teens to early 20s, with shoulder-length hair and wearing a white do-rag, white T-shirt and blue jeans.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Major Case Squad at 314-646-3632. CrimeStoppers also announced on Sunday a $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest.
Update: 12:10 p.m. MAPLEWOOD -- Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a popular restaurant owner in the Delmar Loop area who was killed outside his Richwood Terrace apartment in the 2400 block of Laclede Station Road Friday night. A manhunt is underway for the suspect seen running from the scene.
Police said Ahmed Eltawmi, 50, owner of the Gyro House in the Delmar Loop, was shot three times during a dispute and scuffle shortly after 9 p.m. outside in the parking lot near one of the building's entrances. Witnesses said the shooter ran and the victim stumbled across the parking lot yelling that he had been shot and for someone to call 911.
