Two men charged, one teen sought in St. Charles murder

ST. CHARLES - Prosecutors on Monday charged two men with murdering a Wentzville man last week as detectives continue searching for a 15-year-old boy police say pulled the trigger.

• Police said Monday that two men and a teen murdered Daniel Brennan, 23, during a ploy to sell him heroin at an apartment complex in St. Charles.

Harvion L. Cameron, 20, Jeffery D. Lottie, 22, were charged with second-degree murder, attempted robbery and two counts of armed criminal action. The teen suspect was still free Monday.

Cameron, of the 700 block of South Fifth Street in St. Charles, and Lottie of the 300 block of Oakborough Drive near Lake Saint Louis, were being held in lieu of a $1 million cash-only bail.

Brennan was found fatally shot about 11:20 p.m. last Tuesday in his PT Cruiser on Cave Springs Road near a Denny’s restaurant.

ST. CHARLES • Major Case Squad detectives Wednesday were looking for more than one suspect in the fatal shooting of a Wentzville man Tuesday night.

Police found the victim, Daniel C. Brennan, 23, of the 100 block of Marshall Drive, about 11:20 p.m. in his PT Cruiser on Cave Springs Road near a Denny's restaurant.

The car's transmission was in park, and Brennan was alone inside with a gunshot wound to his shoulder. He was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital about three hours later.

Brennan's mother, Diane, said detectives told her he was shot in an apparent robbery at the Trails of Sunbrook apartment complex on Cave Springs Road.

St. Charles Police Lt. Mike Akers said Brennan drifted in and out of consciousness and talked to police but could provide few details about the shooting.

Police described the case as an "isolated incident" but wouldn't say more about its circumstances. The killing is the first in the city this year.

Major Case Squad activated for St. Charles homicide

ST. CHARLES -- Police in St. Charles activated the Major Case Squad this morning to investigate a homicide in the city.

Lt. Mike Akers with the St. Charles Police Department said a man was found shot in his car along Cave Springs Road, near Interstate 70.

But police were being otherwise tight-lipped.

The man was found in his car about 11:20 p.m. Tuesday. He died later at a hospital.

Another source familiar with the case said the victim had been shot in the chest. Police apparently had pulled over the vehicle because it was being driven erratically near a Denny's restaurant on Cave Springs Road. It was being driven that way because the driver had been shot.
