Colonel Robert G. Lowery Sr. Award of Excellence
“The Major Case Squad Award of Excellence is a living memorial to a Major Case Squad Investigator who has demonstrated exemplary character through an act of heroism, outstanding community service, innovation in law enforcement, or leadership reflective of that by which a Major Case Squad Investigator would act.”
Selection Process:
Annual eligibility for this award is from January 1st through December 31st the following year. An award will be presented at each annual retraining conference. Nominations for the award shall be completed and submitted by January 31st in order to be reviewed. The Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis Board of Directors will review all nominations. All nominations shall be submitted directly to the Chairman of the Board of the Major Case Squad. Direct them to Chairman Sheriff Mearl J. Submission Process:
Any Major Case Squad member in good standing may nominate an individual who is also a member and is in good standing. A Deputy-Commander, who has directly supervised the member, must endorse the nomination. If a Deputy-Commander is nominated, the Squad Commander must endorse the nomination. All supporting documentation shall accompany the nomination when submitted.
Criteria for Selection:
- An act of valor or bravery at the personal risk of one's own life;
- Dedicated, meritorious, and outstanding contribution to the community;
- Outstanding investigatory skills that brought the successful completion and prosecution of a violent crime;
- An innovative act reflecting forward thinking which resulted in the improvement of the quality of law enforcement service within the community; or

Sustained outstanding personal character that is consistently demonstrated, motivational, and inspirational to others in the law enforcement profession.
Documentation:
Nominations must include a complete narrative description relating the factual information related to the demonstrated criteria to justify the award, the signed endorsement of the individual making the nomination, and the signature of the Deputy-Commander or Commander.

Certificate of Commendation
“The Major Case Squad Certificate of Commendation may be awarded to any citizen of the community or police officer, who is not a Major Case Squad Investigator, who significantly contributed towards the course of law enforcement during a Major Case Squad investigation.”

Criteria for Selection:
- A citizen of the community or a police officer, who is not a Major Case Squad Investigator; and
- Significantly contributed towards the course of law enforcement in that the person provided crucial information, gave exemplary assistance to an Investigator, or in some way assisted an investigation above and beyond the normal call of duty or citizenship, during a Major Case Squad investigation.
Documentation
Nominations must include a complete narrative description relating the factual information related to the demonstrated criteria to justify the award, the signed endorsement of the individual making the nomination, and the signature of the Deputy-Commander or Commander.

Certificate of Merit
“The Major Case Squad Certificate of Merit Award may be awarded to any Major Case Squad Investigator or Supervisor, in good standing, who performs in an exceptional manner above that normally expected with diligence, perseverance or exceptional ability.

Prosecuting Attorney Award of Excellence
“The Major Case Squad Prosecuting Attorney Award of Excellence may be awarded to any prosecuting attorney who reviewed, presented or assisted any Major Case Squad investigation and who went above and beyond the normal call of duty to assist in the prosecution of the case”

- Reviewed, presented or assisted any Major Case Squad investigation; and
- Dedicated, meritorious, and outstanding contribution, above and beyond the normal call of duty, towards the prosecution of an investigation.

Distinguished Service Citation for Valor
“The Major Case Squad Distinguished Service Citation for Valor may be awarded to any Major Case Squad Investigator for exceptional bravery in the face of extreme danger, risking great bodily harm or death by action performed outside the
line of duty.”
